  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. lemon extract
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Cream shortening until fluffy.

    Add sugar slowly beating it in.

    Sift dry ingredients together 2 or 3 times, then add alternately with buttermilk to the first mixture.

    Add vanilla and lemon extract.

    Bake in tube pan about 45 minutes at 350°.

    May be eaten with or without frosting.
