  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 egg yolks, beaten
  • 3 c. plain flour (sift before measuring)
  • 1/4 tsp. soda (heaped)
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. almond flavoring (if desired)
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 5 egg whites, beaten

    Beat egg whites stiff, but not dry.

    Set aside.

    Mix dry ingredients.

    Cream margarine and sugar.

    Add beaten egg yolks. Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately, beginning and ending with flour.
