- 1 c. vegetable shortening
- 2 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla or lemon extract (I use 3/4 tsp. of each, almond is good too)
- 6 eggs
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. soda
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar.

2Add flavoring.

3Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Spoon batter into greased 10-inch tube pan and bake at 325° for 1 1/4 hours or until cake tests done.
