Ingredients
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. lukewarm water
- 4 to 5 c. flour
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening or oil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 egg
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water, set aside.

2Heat buttermilk to lukewarm; then add shortening (oil) and sugar.

3Add dissolved yeast to this and add egg and 1 cup flour with soda and salt. Beat firmly.

4Add remaining flour until dough is soft.

5Place dough in warm place and let rise until doubled.

6Roll out dough and cut with biscuit cutter.

7Place rolls on greased cookie sheet and let rise in pans.

8Bake rolls at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

9Butter tops of rolls when coming out of the oven.

10Yields 2 dozen (1 pan).
