- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
Directions

1Melt butter in heavy kettle over low heat.

2Mix sugar, salt and flour; add to melted butter, stirring until mixture is heated. Add the milk and cook over medium heat.

3When the mixture begins to thicken, add the beaten egg yolks.

4Cook until smooth and thickened.

5Cool slightly and add vanilla before pouring into a baked pie shell.

6Add meringue, if desired.

7I use filled soybean milk (8 ounce can).
