Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 lb. sausage
  • 2 c. cooked rice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. minced onion
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 2 c. sauerkraut
  • 1 (10 oz.) can tomato soup
  • 1/2 can water

Directions

    Mix meat, rice, egg, onion and seasonings.

    Remove cabbage core and wilt in boiling water for 5 minutes until pliable. Drain and cool slightly.

    Separate leaves and place 2 tablespoons meat mixture on each and roll up.

    Grease 2 1/2-quart casserole and line with extra leaves and sauerkraut.

    Place pigs on top. Cover with soup and water mixture, then rest of cabbage leaves. Cover and bake for 1 hour at 400°.

    May be cooked ahead and re-warmed for later use.
