  • 1 large leafy cabbage
  • boiling water
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 c. regular grain rice (not instant; uncooked)
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper

Directions

    Remove 12 outer leaves from cabbage and place leaves in a large Dutch oven.

    Add boiling water to cover; let stand 30 to 50 minutes.

    Drain well and set aside.
