Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 lb. sausage
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 c. rice (uncooked)
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 2 eggs
  • oregano to taste
  • garlic salt to taste
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large cabbage heads
  • 1 (10 3/4 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 large can sauerkraut

Directions

    Mix first 9 ingredients to make the filling.

    Boil the cabbage until you can peel the leaves from the heads; drain.

    Put spoonful of meat mixture on each leaf.

    Roll

    up, tucking in ends to make neat compact bundles.

    Layer in roasting pan.

    Layer sauerkraut, tomatoes and remaining pieces of cabbage on top of rolls.

    Pour tomato sauce on top.

    Cover and bake at 350° for 2 1/2 hours. Makes about 30 cabbage rolls.

    Leftovers can be frozen.
