Ingredients
- 1 ham bone
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 can stewed tomatoes
- 1 can chickpeas with liquid
- 1 potato, diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1 stalk celery, diced
- 1/2 tsp. Accent
- 3 c. cabbage, chopped
Directions

1Place ham bone, onion and stewed tomatoes in a large pot.

2Add enough water to barely cover the bone.

3Bring to a boil and simmer 2 to 3 hours.

4Discard the ham bone.

5Measure 4 cups stock (freeze remainder).

6Add all other ingredients to stock.

7Bring to boil and simmer for 1 hour.

8Make a roux with 3 tablespoons margarine and 3 tablespoons flour.

9Add to soup and cook for 3 minutes. Season to taste.

10For heartier soup, add 1 or more cups ham bits.
