Candied Apples

Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • pinch of salt
  • 6 to 8 apples
  • 3/4 to 1 stick margarine or butter

Directions

    Cook water and sugar to a thick syrup.

    Peel and quarter apples and put in pan.

    Add pinch of salt; pour syrup over apples.

    Slice margarine or butter over apples.

    Add 1/4 cup of red cinnamon candy hearts before cooking.

    This makes apples a pretty red color and adds flavor.

    Cook on top of stove on medium-low until clear (20 to 35 minutes).

    (Apples may be baked in a 350° oven about 45 minutes, but tend to be slightly watery.)

    Make in a 9 1/2-inch round pan. Serves 8.
