- 1 c. packed brown sugar
- 1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour*
- 1 1/2 c. quick-cooking oats
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 4 1/2 c. coarsely chopped, pared tart apples
- 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramel candies
Directions

1Heat oven to 400°.

2Mix brown sugar, margarine and shortening. Stir in 1 3/4 cups flour, the oats, salt and baking soda.

3Remove 2 cups of the mixture; reserve.

4Press remaining mixture in an ungreased rectangular pan, 13 x 9 x 2-inches.
