- 1 German chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 c. oleo, softened
- 1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate bits
- 2/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
- 1 pkg. pecans or walnuts
Directions

1Mix cake mix with 1/3 cup evaporated milk and oleo.

2The dough will be stiff.

3Melt unwrapped caramels with other 1/3 cup milk until smooth.

4Spread half of batter in rectangle baking pan with fingers in a greased pan.

5Bake at 350° for 6 minutes.

6Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over baked batter and pour melted caramel over that layer.

7Add nuts.

8Drop remaining batter on this. It will look strange.

9Bake for 15 to 18 minutes.

10No longer! Dough may not look done, but that's due to the melted caramels. Let it cool for a few minutes and then loosen around pan edges. Wait about an hour before cutting into squares.
