  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 -5 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    Spread sugar in frying pan and stir until caramelized.

    Add the water and simmer until sugar and water form a caramel sauce.

    Meanwhile, boil the raisins with the water and the shortening.

    Mix the first four ingredients together.

    Add the vanilla to the raisin mixture, and then add this to the flour mixture.

    Stir together.

    Put sauce in 9x13 pan and add the batter by spoonfuls over the top.

    Bake at 350 degrees till warm and bubbly, approximately 30 minutes.

    Serve with whipped cream or ice cream over the top.
