- 1/3 c. butter or margarine
- 2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1 c. half and half, divided
- 2 tsp. cornstarch
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions

1Combine butter, brown sugar, salt and 3/4 cup half and half in a heavy saucepan.

2Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.

3Do not boil.

4Combine cornstarch and remaining 1/4 cup half and half.

5Gradually stir into brown sugar mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens. Stir in vanilla.

6Yields 2 cups.
