Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2 c. alll purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 c. cold butter
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. shredded cheese

Directions

    Preheat oven to 425°.

    In bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cayenne pepper.

    Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Add the cheese and toss.

    Stir in buttermilk until mixture is moistened.

    Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times.

    Pat or roll to 1 inch thickness; cut with floured 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.

    Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.

    Bake at 425° for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
