  • 6 firm slightly tart apples
  • 1/2 c. sugar, divided
  • 3/4 c. sugar and 2 Tbsp. flour, divided
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. soft butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. grated Cheddar cheese, divided

Directions

    Peel and thinly slice apples.

    Place in a medium bowl about 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and 1 cup cheese.

    Toss well. Transfer to a greased 9-inch square baking pan.

    In a medium bowl, combine remaining sugar and flour with cinnamon.

    With pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.

    Sprinkle evenly over apples.

    Bake at 375° for 30 minutes or until apples are tender.

    Sprinkle remaining cheese and bake just long enough to melt cheese.

    Serve hot.
