  • 1 2/3 c. plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. Cheddar cheese

    Shred Cheddar cheese.

    Combine dry ingredients.

    Cut in shortening.

    Stir in cheese and add buttermilk.

    Stir until dough clings together.

    Knead dough lightly and roll into 12-inch circle.

    Cut into 8 wedges.

    Begin at wide end of wedge and roll toward point.

    Place biscuit (point side down) on a greased baking sheet and bake at 450° for 12 to 14 minutes.
