- 2 c. sifted flour (self-rising)
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 c. (4 oz.) grated sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
- dash of red pepper
Directions

1Preheat oven to 450°.

2Cut shortening into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Add milk and stir with a fork only until dough leaves sides of bowl.

4Stir in cheese, dry mustard and red pepper.

5Turn dough out onto lightly floured board or pastry cloth and knead just until smooth.

6Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with floured 2-inch cutter.

7Place biscuits, lightly touching on ungreased baking sheet.

8Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

9Makes 10 to 12 biscuits.
