Cheese Filled Meat Loaf

  • 1 1/2 lb. lean, ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped onion
  • 2 (8-oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 6 slices American cheese

Directions

    Combine beef, 1 can tomato sauce, egg, bread crumbs, onion and seasonings.

    Divide mixture in half.

    Lightly pack 1/2 mixture in a foil lined pan.

    Arrange 4 slices of cheese on top, then pack the remaining meat mixture over cheese layer.

    Cut remaining cheese slices into strips and arrange on top of loaf.

    (This may be done the last 30 minutes of baking.)
