Chestnut Stuffing(Pastilli)

  • 1/2 lb. pastilli (dry chestnuts)
  • 1 loaf stale Italian bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. celery, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 2 onions, minced
  • 2 sticks melted butter
  • 2 Tbsp. parsley
  • 1 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • salt, pepper and basil to taste

    Soak dry chestnuts overnight.

    Drain well.

    Cut stale bread into crouton size pieces; mix.

    Boil celery, onion and green pepper.

    Beat in egg.

    Add melted butter and seasonings.

    Mix in bread and chestnuts.

    Stir well.

    Stuff into bird or spread into a greased pan.

    If making pan stuffing, bake at 350° for 25 minutes.
