Chocolate Bread Pudding

- 3/4 c. half and half
- 1/2 c. whipping cream
- 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 Tbsp. coffee liqueur
- 3/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 c. 1-inch cubes French bread, crusts trimmed
- powdered sugar
- whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Bring half and half and whipping cream to just simmering basis in a heavy medium saucepan.

3Remove immediately from heat.

4Place chocolate chips in a large bowl. Pour cream mixture over, stirring until all chocolate melts.

5Add 1/2 cup sugar, egg, liqueur and vanilla. Whisk until blended.

6Add bread cubes. Toss to mix well. Transfer to an 8-inch square glass baking dish.

7Let stand for 15 minutes. Bake until bread pudding is set and top puffs, about 30 minutes. Transfer to rack and cool slightly.

8Pudding will appear to fall.

9Sift powdered sugar over bread pudding. Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream.

10This can also be served with a custard sauce or fruit mixture, even a splash of Triple Sec.
