Chocolate Cherry Cake

- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp. pure almond extract
- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 (about 8 oz.) pkg. yellow cake mix (1 layer size)
- 1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Grease 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.

3In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar, eggs and almond extract.

4Add flour, cocoa and baking soda; beat well.

5Set aside.

6Prepare yellow cake mix batter according to directions on box; pour half into bottom of prepared pan.

7Spoon cocoa batter in dollops over yellow cake batter; top with remaining yellow cake batter and cherry pie filling.

8Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until center of cake is firm.

9Cool completely in pan on wire rack.

10Garnish with additional cherry pie filling, if desired.

11Makes 12 to 15 servings.
