Chocolate Covered Cherries

  • 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. milk
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • about 48 maraschino cherries with stems
  • 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening (paraffin can be used)

Directions

    Cream butter; add sugar gradually.

    Mix well.

    Add milk and vanilla; mix well.

    Chill about 2 hours.

    Drain cherries.

    Pat dry with paper towel.

    Shape small amount of sugar mixture around cherries.

    (Make sure to keep sugar mixture on ice while shaping the mixture around the cherries.)

    Allow cherries to chill about 2 to 3 hours.
