Chocolate Layer Bars

Ingredients

  • 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts
  • 2/3 c. evaporated milk (5.3 oz. can)
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. softened oleo
  • 2 eggs

Directions

    Combine chocolate bits, cream cheese and evaporated milk in saucepan.

    Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until bits are melted and mixture is smooth.

    Remove from heat and stir in walnuts and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.

    Blend well.

    Set aside. Combine other ingredients in large bowl.

    Blend with mixer until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Press half of mixture in greased 13 x 9-inch pan.

    Spread with chocolate mixture.

    Sprinkle rest of crumbs over filling.

    Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes.
