- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. brown sugar
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. milk
- 4 oz. chocolate
- 2 tsp. additional fat
- 2 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Cream the shortening and sifted sugar together.

2Add eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, salt and baking powder together.

3Add alternately with the milk to cream mixture. Add melted chocolate and additional melted fat. Add chopped nuts last.

4Drop from a teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet. Top with candied cherries and bake in moderate oven at 350° for 15 minutes.

5Makes 126 cookies 2 1/2-inches in diameter.
