  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    In pan, melt butter, shortening, cocoa and water.

    Bring to boil; mix in bowl sugar and flour.

    Pour cocoa mixture over sugar and flour.

    Mix well, then add 1/2 cup buttermilk and mix thoroughly.

    Add vanilla, eggs, cinnamon and soda.

    Grease and flour pan.

    Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until done.
