  • 1/2 c. (1 stick) margarine
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. Crisco shortening
  • 4 T. cocoa
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 2 t. vanilla extract

    Preheat oven to 350°. Combine margarine, water, Crisco and cocoa in a saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and pour into mixing bowl. Mix in sugar and flour. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla, stir to combine. Pour batter into a greased and floured 11 x 17-inch jelly roll pan or sheet cake pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Have icing ready to spread over cake while cake is hot.
