  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/4 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Directions

    Heat butter, water, cocoa and shortening in saucepan until it comes to a boil.

    Pour over flour and sugar mixture; stir by hand until mixed.

    Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla; mix well. Bake in a large cookie sheet pan that has at least 1-inch sides. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

    While cake is baking, make the icing.
