Ingredients
- 4 c. flour
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. chopped nuts (I use pecans)
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. milk
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 medium potato, cooked well and mashed
- 1/2 lb. each: candied cherries and pineapple
Directions

1Sift flour, sugar and salt together, then add the eggs (well beaten), then the yeast dissolved in warm water, then the potato and mix the whole with the milk which has been warmed and the vanilla.

2When it is well mixed, add the melted butter and mix well.

3Finally add the flour mixture and nuts.

4(If you reserve part of the flour to stir into this fruit and nut mixture, it will more easily mix evenly into the dough.)

5Cover and let rise until double in bulk.

6Divide into 2 or 3 bread pans (depending on size of pans).

7Let rise again and bake in a moderate oven (around 325° to 350°) for about 45 minutes.

8Cool in the pans on racks for about 5 minutes.

9Remove from pans and set loaves on racks to cool thoroughly before storing.
