Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 2 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. nuts
  • 1 c. candied red cherries
  • 1 c. candied green cherries
  • 1/2 c. candied pineapple

    Boil first 8 ingredients together about five minutes, then let cool.

    Preheat oven to 350°.

    Sift together soda and flour.

    Add gradually to liquid mixture.

    Stir in nuts and candied fruit. Pour batter into two greased loaf pans and garnish top with maraschino cherries.

    Bake at 350° for one hour, or until done.
