  • 450 grams Flour
  • 200 grams Molasses (or brown cane sugar syrup)
  • 130 grams Brown sugar
  • 250 grams Unsalted butter
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Ginger powder
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Baking powder

Directions

    Combine the molasses and butter in a pan, cook over low heat, and add the butter.

    Be careful not to burn it!

    Once it cools, mix in the egg.

    Mix together the flour, sugar, and spices in a bowl.

    Gradually add the cooled wet ingredients from Step 1 to make the dough.

    Once the mixture forms a dough, wrap in plastic wrap, then chill in the refrigerator for 40 minutes.

    Roll out the dough, then cut the cookies.

    Arrange on parchment paper on a baking sheet, then bake for 20 minutes in an oven preheated to 160 C (320 F).

    Once the gingerbread cookies are cooled to the touch, they're ready to be iced.

    Add any color you like to the icing.

    (Mix a small amount of egg white to powdered sugar until it reaches an appropriate consistency, then fill pastry bags to decorate.)
