- 4 granny smith apples peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2 inch chunks
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- salt
Directions

1In a 2-quart dish, combine apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.

2Cover, and microwave on high until very tender, 10 to 15 minutes, stirring halfway through.

3Mash apples with the back of a spoon.

4Serve warm; or cover, refrigerate at least 1 hour, and serve chilled.

5If desired, add food coloring (e.g. green for Halloween, red or pink for Valentine's Day).

6Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
