Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1/2 c. nuts

Directions

    Sift flour and add baking powder, soda and salt.

    Sift again. Melt shortening in saucepan.

    Remove from heat.

    Mix in sugar. Cool.

    Stir in egg and vanilla.

    Add flour mixture, nuts and chocolate chips and mix well.

    Spread in greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

    Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.

    Do not overbake.
