- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/8 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
- 1/2 c. nuts
Directions

1Sift flour and add baking powder, soda and salt.

2Sift again. Melt shortening in saucepan.

3Remove from heat.

4Mix in sugar. Cool.

5Stir in egg and vanilla.

6Add flour mixture, nuts and chocolate chips and mix well.

7Spread in greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

8Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes.

9Do not overbake.
