- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 2 c. brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. nuts
- 1 c. chocolate chips
- 3/4 c. chopped dates (optional)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Cream the shortening and sugar.

3Beat until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.

4Add vanilla. On low speed, mix in dry ingredients.

5Stir in nuts, chips and dates.

6Pour into a 13 x 9-inch pan.

7Bake 25 to 30 minutes.
