  • 2 c. corn meal
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • milk (about 1 c.)

Directions

    Combine all dry ingredients (corn meal, sugar, baking powder, flour and salt).

    Add shortening, egg and enough milk to make a thin batter. Beat until smooth.

    Pour into greased 8-inch square pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes in a hot 425° oven.
