Cornmeal Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 c. cornmeal
  • 8 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. margarine
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 cakes yeast
  • approximately 8 c. flour

Directions

    Make one quart of rather stiff cornmeal (water, cornmeal and salt).

    While still hot, add margarine and sugar.

    Let stand until lukewarm, then add yeast dissolved in a little warm water.

    Let it raise until very light, then mix in enough flour for a moderately soft dough.

    Leave overnight, roll out what is needed and spread with butter and fold if desired.

    Roll again.

    Cut as biscuits and let raise again in warm place.

    Bake in hot oven about 20 to 30 minutes.
