  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 Tbsp. salad oil or melted shortening
  • 1 c. water

    Mix first five ingredients.

    Make 3 depressions in dry ingredients.

    Pour vinegar into one, vanilla into one and oil into one.

    Pour water over all.

    Mix well until smooth.

    Pour into greased 8-inch cake pan.

    Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool.

    Serve with cream, Cool Whip or frosting.
