- 9-inch baked pastry shell
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 2 1/2 c. milk
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. sugar
Directions

1Combine sugar, salt and cornstarch in saucepan.

2Stir in milk and cook over medium-low heat until slightly thickened.

3Combine a little of the hot mixture with beaten egg yolk.

4Return to hot mixture and cook until thickened.

5Stir in vanilla and butter. Pour into baked pastry shell.

6Top cooled filling with meringue made by beating egg whites with 1/2 cup sugar.

7Brown in oven at 425°.
