- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 c. milk
- 2 or 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 (9-inch) baked pie shell
- egg whites, stiffly beaten with 2 Tbsp. sugar to each egg white and dash of cream of tartar
Directions

1Mix cornstarch, sugar and salt; gradually add milk with egg yolks mixed in, to the dry mixture.

2Cook over medium heat until thick, about 10 minutes, stirring constantly.

3Cool; add butter and

6into cooled baked shell and spread with meringue or Cool Whip.

7If using meringue, bake in a 325° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
