Ingredients
- 1 lb. pea or navy beans
- 1 1/2 qt. boiling water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 tsp. butter
- 2 1/2 c. (1 lb. 3 oz. can) tomatoes with juice
- 3 c. milk
- 1 1/4 lb. smoked ham hocks or meaty ham bone
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 3/4 c. minced onion
Directions

1Wash and clean beans. Cover with cold water and soak overnight.

2Drain.

3Place beans in kettle with boiling water, ham bone, salt and pepper.

4Heat to boiling.

5Reduce heat and simmer 2 1/2 hours.

6Remove from heat.
