  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. soda
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. Grape-Nuts

Directions

    Sift flour once; measure and add baking powder, soda, salt and nutmeg and sift again.

    Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly.

    Add sugar and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy.

    Add flour, alternating with milk, mixing well after each addition.

    Stir in raisins and Grape-Nuts.

    Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet.

    Bake in moderate oven (375°) for 8 to 10 minutes, or until brown.

    Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
