  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Thoroughly cream shortening; gradually add and continue to cream sugar with shortening.

    Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Sift flour, soda and salt together.

    Add alternately with buttermilk.

    Bake in two greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans at 350° for approximately one hour.
