Curried Fall-Fruit Compote

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c chopped onion
  • 4 Tbsp beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 pear, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 Red Delicious apple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 dried apricots, cut up and soaked 20 minutes in 2 Tbsp apricot or other fruit-flavored brandy or orange juice
  • 1/4 c golden raisins

    In a large saucepan over medium heat simmer onion in 2 Tbsp broth until limp. Add curry powder and cumin. Stir over medium-high heat about 15 seconds. Add remaining ingredients, including the brandy.
