- 1 3/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
- 2 eggs
- 3 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. sour milk or 1 Tbsp. vinegar plus milk to equal 1 c.
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts, lightly floured
- 1 1/2 c. dates, cut in small pieces
Directions

1Cream butter and brown sugar; add eggs, beating well.

2Combine flour, soda and salt and add alternately with milk.

3Stir in nuts and dates, mixing thoroughly.

4Spoon into 2 well-greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pans or five 16-ounce cans.

5Bake loaves in a preheated 350° oven for

660 minutes and cans in a 325° oven for 60 to 70 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

7Cool on rack for 10 minutes.

8Turn out of pans and continue cooling on rack.

9Makes 2 loaves.
