  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. unsifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. Mazola corn oil
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. coarsely chopped dates
  • 1 c. coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions

    Grease a 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.

    In a medium bowl, stir together sugars, flour, baking powder and salt.

    Make a well in the center.

    Add eggs, corn oil and vanilla.

    Stir until smooth.

    Stir in dates and nuts until well mixed.

    Spread evenly in prepared pan. Bake in a 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until lightly browned and cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

    While still warm, cut into 24 bars.
