  • 1 c. dates
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 c. walnuts

Directions

    Cut dates and raisins and sprinkle with baking soda.

    Pour boiling water over this mixture and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs, beating until smooth.

    Add date mixture, flour and nuts.

    Bake in 4 greased cans (the size of 15 ounce Hunt's tomato sauce).

    Bake in 350° oven for 1 hour.
