- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, cut up
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 beaten egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Pour boiling water over dates, butter and sugar.

2Cool.

3Sift together flour, soda and salt; add to the date mixture.

4Stir in egg and vanilla.

5Mix thoroughly.

6Add nuts.

7Pour into a lightly greased loaf pan.

8Bake at 375° for 5 minutes or slightly longer, then reduce heat to 300°.

9Continue baking for 1 hour.
