  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. pitted dates
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Chop dates; sprinkle soda over dates.

    Pour boiling water over dates and soda; add butter and sugar.

    Let cool.

    Add flour, eggs, nuts and vanilla.

    Pour into buttered loaf pan.

    Bake at 325° for 30 minutes.

    Raise temperature to 350° and bake until toothpick comes out clean.

    Freezes well.
