- 2 pkg. cut dates
- 2 c. nuts
- 2 c. boiling water
- 2 c. shortening
- 4 c. cake flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 level tsp. soda
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
Directions

1Pour boiling water over dates and nuts.

2Let them stand until cool.

3Mix shortening and sugar.

4Add the eggs, without heating. Sift salt with flour.

5Now add soda to dates and nuts.

6Add alternately to the sugar mixture with flour.

7Lastly, stir in 2 to 3 cups cold water.

8Bake in two loaf pans at 350° for about 45 minutes.
