- 1 pkg. pitted dates
- 1 1/4 c. hot coffee
- 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3/4 c. chopped walnuts
- 2 1/4 c. sifted flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Cut dates into small pieces into medium size bowl.

2Pour hot coffee over them. Stir in sugar and butter.

3Cool to room temperature. Stir in beaten egg and walnuts.

4Sift flour, soda and salt onto waxed paper.

5Stir quickly into date mixture just until blended. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.

6Let stand 15 minutes. Bake in a 350° oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool 5 minutes; turn out on wire rack. Cool completely.
